Growing up in the small south Australia town of Quorn, Jedd Hughes was first given the gift of Country music by his father who loved the sounds of Australian traditional country singer, Slim Dusty, and American icons Johnny Cash and Marty Robbins.  “My father had a lot of records,” Jedd recalls, “Music has always been the thing that excites me.  Even as a small kid, I remember running around the house freaking out because music had such a magnificent affect on me”.

At age eight, Jedd won first place at the Port Pirie Country Music Festival.  At age 12, Jedd was chosen to represent Australia on a three week tour of Europe, performing at the International Music For Youth festivals held in France, Belgium, and Sweden.  His teen years were spent performing as a sideman for various Australian country entertainers, but after high school, he had one goal…to come to America.

After graduating from high school in Australia, Jedd made the leap to attend South Plains College in Texas, which offered a bluegrass music program.  The experience was life-changing. "For starters," he explains, "I had serious singing lessons for the first time in my life, which helped me a lot. I learned confidence in playing and singing, and more confidence as a human being. Looking back, it was a big step, but at the time was something I had to do. There was no option - I had to come to America."

Attending South Plains College proved to be more than a confidence-builder - it also led to meeting Terry McBride, an accomplished songwriter, producer, and musician best known for his trio McBride and The Ride and Brooks & Dunn hits including “Play Something Country”, who had been leading a workshop at the college.  McBride talked with Jedd after the show and offered to write with him if he ever made the move to Nashville.  Soon after, Jedd called Music City home and the pair began writing. "We probably wrote over 80 songs between April 2002 and March 2003," notes Jedd. Since his move to Nashville, Jedd has earned the respect of Nashville’s elite.  Playing and performing both onstage and in the studio with Patty Loveless, Rodney Crowell, Alison Krauss, Guy Clark, and Keith Urban, his list of admirers is long.

Now on the list of “Who’s Who” of Country Music, Jedd Hughes was signed to Capitol Records where he met producer and guitar playing friend, Tom Bukovac.  It was while making that record he met Bukovac’s now fiancé, Sarah Buxton (Lyric Street Records), who sang on his record.   Most recently, Jedd has teamed up with Sarah Buxton on her debut release Sarah Buxton, including a captivating vocal performance on the Hughes co-penned duet “Big Blue Sky”.  This Spring, the pair is preparing to hit the road with Martina McBride and Trace Adkins to open the “Shine All Night Tour” through May, after which they’ll head out together on the Country Throwdown tour created by Vans Warped Tour founder, Kevin Lyman featuring Montgomery Gentry, Little Big Town, Jack Ingram, Jamey Johnson, and Emily West.  The skies are truly bright blue for Jedd Hughes…he’s come this far and its just the beginning.
